What does the Bible say about God’s Divine Protection?

The enemy of our souls is evil and wants to harm us. He uses people as well in this world to cause others harm. He is looking to destroy us so he attacks us spiritually, physically, and emotionally.

As a believer, when you confess that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior and believe in His power, you will have access to the power and protection He offers.

God is all-powerful. He is the one we can run to for protection and comfort. In the Bible, we see how God protected His dearly loved children like Job. He puts a hedge around us to keep us safe.

“Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”

So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. “

Job 1: 8-10 NKJV

As we will also see from the Scriptures about Divine Protection, God sends His angels to shield us and fight for us.

Spiritual battles are happening that we may not see with our physical eyes, but we can trust that God is our sanctuary, shield, shelter, safe place, and strong tower.

The Lord rescued Lot and his family from Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19) and also rescued Paul from prison and death multiple times (Acts 14:19-20, Acts 28:3-6, Acts 16:25-26

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shieldand the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalms 18:1-2 NIV

Our faithful God is a rock that is strong and steady. He delivers us from evil and danger and in Him we can take refuge.

The horn of an animal was a strong and fierce weapon used in battle to destroy and scatter the enemy. It was a source of hope and power just like our salvation in Christ. Because of the resurrection power of Christ Jesus, we have the power to destroy all the schemes of the enemy.

A fortress is a large fortified place and a military stronghold. It’s one of the best places to be as we seek protection from the enemy. We love the Lord for He is our strength, fortress, and stronghold.

“May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble;
 May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;”

Psalm 20:1 NKJV

The Lord answers us in times of trouble. He has kept His promises for generations. We are the children of Father Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who are founders of our faith. The Lord delivered and defended them and He will do the same for us.

“The Lord delights in those who fear him,
who put their hope in his unfailing love.”

Psalm 147:11 NIV

And delivers them.”

But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

“You are my hiding place;
You shall preserve me from trouble;
You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. “

“You are my hiding place and my shield;
I hope in Your word.”

Psalm 119:114 NKJV

God is often referred to as a shield and hiding place in the Bible. We must believe and trust in Him as our protector. He has proven through His word that He keeps His promises.

“Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings.”

Psalm 17:8 NIV

What an encouraging and comforting scripture. Because of the steadfast love of God, He keeps us as the apple of His eye. We are hidden in Christ (Colossians 3:3) which is one of the best places to be as He is our shelter from harm.

“I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
making my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.”

Psalm 40:1-3 NIV

There are times that deliverance doesn’t come as fast we we’d like. God’s ways and timings and ways are different from ours. As we wait for the Lord, we must trust that as a loving Father, He knows best.

There’s no doubt though that even for the psalmist despite the uncertain and uneven footing he found himself in, God still rescued him and placed him firmly on solid ground. In the end, he had a powerful testimony to share with others about how God had granted him victory.

When we wait patiently for the Lord, we will witness mighty miracles as well and the glory of God will be shown to others around us.

Psalms for Protection from Enemies

As a believer, you likely have enemies that you may or may not know of. They are seeking to harm you and do evil against you or your loved ones. That’s why we need to pray for God to protect our children, families, and friends against these enemies and evildoers.

Our biggest enemy is the devil. The Bible is clear that our warfare is not physical but against spiritual strongholds and principalities (Ephesians 6:10-18). So we can’t fight the enemy with our physical strength, we need the spiritual armor of God

These are great psalms to pray and ask the Lord for divine intervention against the enemies of the soul.

“The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive,
And he will be blessed on the earth;
You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies.”

Psalm 41:2 NIV

How amazing that God promises to keep us alive and bless us on earth. Our enemies will never prevail over us because we serve the Alpha and Omega, the Almighty God who was, is, and is to come.

“God is our refuge and strength,
 an ever-present help in trouble.”

Psalm 46:1 NIV

“Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me;
You will stretch out Your hand
Against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will save me.”

Psalm 138:7 NKJV

In our daily lives, there are times we can feel weak, helpless, scared, and overwhelmed. But God promises to revive us and strengthen us.

He is always there to help us in times of trouble. The Lord Jesus Christ is seated at the right hand of God in heaven and He will save us from our enemies.

“He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
from my foes, who were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
but the Lord was my support.”

Psalm 18:17-18 NIV

Even when the enemy appears stronger than us, we can always rely on God’s faithfulness and power. He will support us and deliver us from harm.

“The Lord is on my side;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?”

Psalm 118:6 NIV

“The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?”

Psalm 27:1

These verses are a powerful weapon against the enemy’s attacks. He wants us to be afraid of everything but God tells us to be courageous, and bold, and stand on His promises.

When we are safe and secure in God’s presence, we experience His wonderful peace, strength, and great love.

Comforting Psalms of Protection

Psalm 23 is possibly one of the most popular chapters in the Book of Psalms. It’s one that often comes to mind for us in our time of need to give us strength, courage, and reassurance.

David who was a shepherd himself before becoming a king referred to God as the Great Shepherd.

In ancient Israel, the sheep’s survival was based on how kind, good, and protective the shepherd was. As God’s children, we are under the guidance, protection, love, and care of the shepherd.

The promise we get in this chapter is even in the valley of the shadow of death when we might feel very scared and alone, the presence of God will be there to comfort us.

He refreshes us when we are weak and overwhelmed and guides us on the right paths in life. When we rely on Him and trust Him, we’ll be safe.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.”

Psalm 23:1-4 NIV

Psalm 121 is one of my favorite psalms to hold onto when the spirit of fear overwhelms me or the schemes of the enemy leave me discouraged and hopeless. It’s a reminder of who God is. He is my all-powerful Helper.

God watches over us and doesn’t sleep so we can sleep peacefully knowing that He keeps us safe. He has placed a hedge of protection around us and nothing will harm us.

What an encouraging and powerful Psalm for Protection to recite and pray over.

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
 where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
 will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
 nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.”

Psalm 121 NIV

Psalm 116 is a wonderful psalm of declaring the faithful promises of God and our love for Him. The key verses highlight that when we pray to God, no matter what danger we are in, He comes and saves us because He is gracious and compassionate.

This psalm also reminds us to look back, remember all the times God has helped us, and express gratitude and appreciation to Him.

“I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
 he heard my cry for mercy.
Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.

The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came over me;
I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the Lord:
“Lord, save me!”

The Lord is gracious and righteous;
 our God is full of compassion.

The Lord protects the unwary;
 when I was brought low, he saved me.

Return to your rest, my soul,
for the Lord has been good to you.

For you, Lord, have delivered me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.”

Psalm 116:1-9 NIV

will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
 you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
